The
New York Transit Museum is completely dedicated to mass transit,
and houses collections relating to the history of public transportation
in the New York metropolitan region. Located in a decommissioned
1936 subway station in Downtown Brooklyn, the Transit Museum is closed
for
a 15-month period, during which it is being completely renovated.
LearningTimes
is working with the Museum to design
and configure a state-of-the-art classroom for childrens
workshops and a new resource and computer center. LearningTimes
is also designing and implementing an exciting web-based strategy
for the Museum, which involves unique educational
activities,
and projects that will actively involve the New York City community
at large, and communities well beyond New York.
The
centerpiece of the Museum's web presence will be the Transit
Museum Education "Community
Crossing" site.

The
online community will provide an accessible online
resource of
educational information
and activities for teachers and their students prior to Museum
visits. It will also act as a
home for collaborative virtual exhibitions, and enable
learners beyond the traditional reach of the Museum, to learn
about the collections
and themes that the Museum’s mission aims to preserve
and teach.
